Symbiosis Entrance Test [SET Exam] 2017

Exam Description:

SET 2017:

Symbiosis Entrance Test (SET 2017) is a university level test that is organized by the Symbiosis International University. SET is organized every year for admission to undergraduate courses of the Symbiosis University and its constituent Institutions. The examination is conducted once in a year in the first week of May as a pen paper based test. This entrance test will be conducted in various cities of the country.

Students should note that the entry to several B.Tech programs will be on the basis of the JEE Main scores. Symbiosis Institute of Technology shall provide admissions to students on the basis of merit in either SET or JEE Main entrance exams.

Eligibility
Indian eligible students will be admitted to Symbiosis on the basis of the merit list drawn out of the results of the selection process through SET and PIWAT .

Eligibility for the Differently Abled:

A student having any of the following disabilities with minimum 40% of damages can claim admissions and can satisfy eligibility under this category.

A certificate issued by a Medical Superintendent/ Civil Surgeon of a Government hospital has to be submitted to prove that the candidate belongs to that particular category. The disability certificate shall be verified/certified by Symbiosis Centre of Health Care (SCHC), Pune, for admission under this category. Eligibility Criteria Differently Abled.

The following are the categories which have the above eligibility criteria:

Loco motor Disability 
"Blindness" refers to a condition where a person suffers from any of the following conditions namely : Total absence of sight or Visual acuity not exceeding 6/60 or 20/200 (Snellen) in the better eye with correcting lenses or Limitation of the field of vision subtending an angle of 20 degree or worse.
Low Vision - Eligibility

Person with low vision means a person with impairment of visual functioning even after treatment or standard refractive correction but who uses or is potentially capable of using vision or the planning or execution of a task with appropriate assistive device. 
Hearing impairment - Eligibility

Hearing Impairment means loss of sixty decibels or more in the better ear in the conversational range of frequencies.
Loco motor disability - Eligibility

Loco motor disability means disability of the bones, joints or muscles leading to substantial restriction of the movement of the limbs or any form of cerebral palsy.
Cerebral palsy means a group of non-progressive conditions of a person characterized by abnormal motor control posture, resulting from brain insult or injuries occurring in the prenatal, peri-natal or intent period of development.
All the cases of orthopaedically handicapped persons would be covered the category of loco motor disability or cerebral palsy.
Policy of admission against vacant seats under reserved category at Symbiosis

In case some seats remain vacant due to the non-availability of suitable and eligible candidates in the category of reservations then information about the number of vacant seats in each category will be reported to the Symbiosis International University and with the permission of the Vice-chancellor, the seats will be reverted to the general category and short listed eligible students will be offered these seats.

Syllabus
Syllabus for SET 2017:

The syllabus for Symbiosis Entrance Test depends on the course for which the student is aiming to enroll for.

There are eight dominant departments in this syllabus in Symbiosis University which hosts its own set of entrance examinations in various cities. They are:

  • Syllabus for SET comprises of a common section and a department selective.

Each of the departments in Symbiosis International University have their own testing areas and syllabus.

SET 2017 Common Section Syllabus:

The syllabus for common section of the test comprises of topics like:

Data Interpretation - introduction to data interpretation, bar graphs, calculation techniques, column graphs, data sufficiency, graphs representing area, line charts, pie charts, tables and caselets and venn diagrams.

Quantitative Aptitude - pipes and cisterns, averages, binomial theorem, coordinate geometry, functions, geometry, inequalities, linear equations, logarithm, mensuration, mixtures and alligations, number systems and number theory, percentages, permutation and combination, probability, profit and loss, progressions - arithmetic, geometric and harmonic, quadratic equations, bicycle races, clocks, ratio and proportion, set theory, simple and compound interest, speed, distance and time, trigonometry and blood relations.

Logical Reasoning and its syllabus ranges from Boolean logic, critical reasoning and cubes to family tree, logic based problems, logical deductions, logical links, reasoning puzzles, sequencing and arrangement, syllogism, verbal reasoning based on binary logic, cryptographic decoding on a basic level, alphabets and numbers logic identification. 
SET 2017 Verbal Section Syllabus:

Reading Comprehension - facts and opinions, global questions, idea organization patterns, identifying purpose and tone, identifying central points, identifying main ideas, inferences, inferential questions, logical or cause and effect questions, predicting and identifying supporting details, recognizing and evaluating arguments, specific detail questions and understanding vocabulary.

Verbal Ability - is verbs, adjectives, adverbs, analogies, antonyms, articles, conjunctions, direct and indirect speech, origin of words(Latin/roman), phobias, manias, odd one out, misplaced modifiers, prepositions, punctuation, roots and prefixes, suffixes, sentence completion, identifying errors in sentences, synonyms and tenses.
SET 2017 Syllabus for Law:

Legal reasoning - Indian Constitution, Indian Penal Code, Law of Torts, Indian Contract Act, Family Law, Intellectual property rights, labor laws etc.

SET also tests the students on General Knowledge and the syllabus for GK is Politics.

History - ancient, medieval, modern and world, geography, economics, general science, science and technology, environment and ecology.

Current Affairs (most Important) - National and international news, most recent and dominant news in the fields of sports, science, places, people, economics, book releases, prizes awarded and author recognitions.
SET 2017 Syllabus for Engineering:

Subjects which have been studied in 10th and 12th are tested on a basic level for securing an engineering seat in Symbiosis Institute of Technology.

The subjects which have to be given most importance are Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics.

SET 2017 Syllabus for Media, Communication and Design:

Visualization - simple and complex 2D as well as 3D geometric shapes, effective forms of their representations in any given plane and various forms of manipulations, understanding basic relations of conversion from one plane to another.

Observational, Perceptual and Reasoning - object identification, attention to details, effective interpretation, opinions, meanings and conclusions, analysis and expression in systematic manner, relating to real life scenarios using 2D structures.

Creative and problem solving abilities for obtaining solutions.

Application of basic knowledge of Science and Mathematics - application observation, science and mathematics (studied in 10th), connections.
SET 2017 Syllabus for Art, Craft, Culture, Design and Environment:

Basics on global level, people, tools, materials, techniques, culture progression, issues faced by people, scarcity of environmental basics, national and international trends in life, influences, concerns, actions taken by international organizations like UNESCO, UNICEF etc. and contemporary trends worldwide.

SET 2017 Syllabus for Health and Biomedical Sciences:

Physics
Chemistry
Mathematics
The above subjects will be tested only until 10th and 12th standard level.

Mode of application

SET 2017 Application Procedure:

Candidates can fill the application form through online mode by visiting the official site of Symbiosis University.

Prior to filling the form, the applicants will have to register themselves after which a unique SET id will be generated. Using this they must log in onto the official website.

Then the applicants must upload the scanned documents of a recent photograph and signatures in the appropriate formats.

Then, the applicants must pay the application fees of Rs.1500 which is to be paid via credit/debit card, net banking or e-challan or DD payment.

The applicant then must submit the application form and also take a printout of the same for future use.

Students should note that it is compulsory to complete registration process by filling up the online application form  and submit it successfully so as to appear for the exam on the decided date.
