An Overview on IBPS RRB 2017:

The first railway root in India is laid between Mumbai and thane in the year 1853.

At the time of independence it had 42 rail systems. Later in the year 1951 it is nationalized as a single unit. India is one of the largest railway network in the world. It has about 65 thousand kms of railway track. The annual income is more than 1,000 million rupees all over the country. Again the Indian railway is divided into zones.

Group 'A' Posts: Group A posts is carried out by UPSC - appointed through Civil Service Exam, Engineering Service Exam, and Combined Medical Service Examination.

Group 'B' Posts: This posts are not open to directly. The Group B posts link Section Officers Grade - upgraded posts from Group 'C' railway employees on deputation basis.

Group 'C' Posts: Technical and Non-Technical cadre posts like Clerk, Station Master, Ticket Collector, Commercial Apprentice, Traffic Apprentice, Engineering posts (Civil, Mechanical, Electrical, Signal & Telecommunication) etc.

Group A posts:

IAS allied services, Indian Railway Traffic Services (IRTS), Indian Railway Personal Service (IRPS), Indian Railway Accounts Service (IRAS), Engineering Service Examination (ESE), Indian Railway Service of Engineers (IRSE), Indian Railway Service of Mechanical Engineers (IRSME) and Special Class Railway Apprentice (SCRA), Indian Railway Service of Signal Engineer (IRSSE), Indian Railway Stores Services (IRSS), Indian Railway Protection Force (IRPF), Indian Railway Medical Services. These exams are carried by the UPSC.

Group B posts:

These are gazette posts recruited by RRB. Section Officers, Junior Engineers, Depot Material Superintendent posts are posts recruited in group B. experience employees in group C will be promoted for Group B posts

Group C posts:

It contains technical and non-technical posts. The posts include ticket collector, clerk, commercial apprentice, railway posts, traffic apprentice, engineering posts like civil, mechanical, signal and telecommunication dept. The recruitment is carried by RRB.

Group D posts:

The recruitment of group D is carried by RRC. The posts included in group D are safaiwala, trackman, peon, the gunman, and tracker.

Eligibility

Eligibility Criteria for IBPS RRB 2017:

In order to apply for these railway jobs, you have to fulfil the following eligibility conditions.

  • Age between 18 - 32 years (relaxation of 3yrs for OBC, Widows & Divorced women, 5yrs for SC/ST & 42 for PWD) as on 1.1.2017.
  • Medical clearance certificates.
  • Degree from a recognised university.

Candidate can apply for any one RRB only. But you can apply for all the posts through a single application itself & mention the order of preference.

Educational Qualification related eligibility criteria for RRB Exam:

  • Graduation through regular mode: You should have completed graduation from a recognized Board / University / Institute AND have the result of the final examination available at the time of application.
  • Graduation through non formal / distance education: In case, you have a degree through non formal / distance education, then you need to meet either of the two criteria mentioned below, in addition to those discussed for candidates who have completed their graduation through regular mode:
    • You should have completed 12 years of schooling through an Examination conducted by a Board / University, OR
    • You should have passed an entrance test by the University to enroll for a 3 year degree program through distance / non formal education AND you should not have been below 18 years of age as on 1st July of the year of admission to this course.
  • Typing Proficiency: Typing proficiency is only required, if you are applying to specific posts of any RRB. These posts are : Junior Accounts Assistant – cum – Typist, Senior Clerk – cum Typist and Sr. Time Keeper. While the typing proficiency is not required at the time of writing the Computer Based Test, a qualifying exam called, Typing Skill Test is conducted if you are shortlisted for the position, in the second round. You should ensure that you are able to comfortably achieve the following typing proficiency after disabling editing and spell check tools:
    • English Language Typing: 30 words per minute
    • Hindi Language Typing: 25 words per minute in Kruti Dev or Mangal font.

Note: Candidates with more than 40% disability may be exempted from the Typing Test, provided they bring the Typing Skill Test Exemption Certificate to the Type Test Center.

Syllabus

Syllabus for IBPS RRB 2017:

RRB will conduct the RRB (NTPC) Exam, 2017 in three parts. The first stage of the examination will be the written question paper.

The question paper will have 4 sections viz, Arithmetic Aptitude, General Intelligence and Reasoning, General Awareness, General Science. The detailed syllabus of all the mentioned sections have given below-

Arithmetic Aptitude

  • Questions from Bar Graphs, Pie Charts, Line Graphs, tables will be asked under the head of ‘Data Interpretation’.
  • Questions on Boats & Streams, Trains’ speed, Time & Distance, Pipe & Cistern, Time & Work
  • Percentage, Profit & Loss, Interest (Simple and Compound), Discounts & Margins
  • Arithmetical Simplification / Numerical Operations on addition, subtraction, multiplication and division
  • Average, Ratio and Proportion, Problems on Age will be in the arithmetical section of RRB NTPC Question Paper.
  • Linear equation, Quadratic Equations, Algebraic LCM and HCF
  • Geometric Computation of Area, Volume, Perimeters etc. of geometric shapes such as a circle, triangle, rectangle, pentagon, cube, cuboids, sphere etc.

General Intelligence and Reasoning

  • Questions on Analogy, Classification of Odd pair and Syllogism will be asked in this section.
  • Pattern Detection, Embedded Images Mirror Images, Hidden Images, Figure Matrix under the head of ‘Visual Reasoning’.
  • Statement-Conclusion, Statement Argument, Statement Interference
  • Puzzles/Complex Arrangement and Sitting /Circular Arrangements
  • Puzzles/Complex Arrangement, Alphanumeric Series, Direction Sense
  • Equality/Inequality, Blood Relation, Problem Solving, Verbal & Visual Analysis,
  • Eligibility Test, Arithmetical Reasoning¸ Decision Making

General Awareness

Questions in this section will be from the surrounding and very general topics which make impact on human life such as;

  • Indian Economy, Indian Geography, Indian History, Indian Polity, Indian Culture & Heritage and Indian Railways (Facts & Figures, History)
  • Current Affairs (Contemporary Issues)
  • National and International Organisations, Famous Personalities, Honours and Awards, Science & Technology, Games and Sports, Government Schemes and Policies

General Science

  • In this section, candidates will be asked questions from Physics, Chemistry, Biology and Environmental Studies.

The standard of the questions asked in the RRB NTPC Examination, 2017 will be of slightly higher than the senior secondary school exam level.

Mode of application

Application Process for IBPS RRB 2017:

Online application process starts on December 26 & closes on January 25.

  • Visit the website of RRB that you wish to apply
  • Click on the appropriate link 
  • Make sure that you should have relevant documents like a photograph, signature, educational and other certificates in proper format which are required to be uploaded during the registration process.
  • Fill in the required details, choose exam centre & complete the order of preference for each post
  • Upload your photo & signature if required
  • Use proper payment mode (if applicable) as mentioned in the instructions. This may include either make payment through Bank Challan Form or Debit/Credit/Master/Visa Card or Demand Draft.
  • Submit application & take a print of the acknowledgement for future reference.

There is no Interview (Viva Voce) after the written examination. For a very few specific (Group A & B) categories there is a Viva after the written exam, while for certain other categories there is a Skill Test (like typing test or stenography test) and for categories related to operational safety like Assistant Station Master, Assistant Loco Pilot, there will be an Aptitude Test
