Mahatma Gandhi University Common Admission Test [MGU CAT] 2017

Exam Description:

MGU CAT 2017:

MGU CAT stands for Mahatma Gandhi University Common Admission Test. The university is situated in the Central Kerala District of Kottayam and is affiliated to the University of Kerala.

The MGU CAT test is conducted in order to accept admission into its various postgraduate programs. Every year applications are invited from all across the country for admission into the Postgraduate programs in the Statutory Teaching Departments and Inter School Centre of the University. The admission process of the candidate will be done through a Centralized allotment Process.

There is a separate entrance test for the various programs that are offered by the university. The candidates are required to submit only one application form in which they can opt for a maximum of 4 academic programmes based on their eligibility. The online registration for the exam commences from March and goes until May. The registration can be done from the official website of CAT-MGU.

Course Title

Eligibility Criteria

M.Sc Chemistry (Inorganic Chemistry), M.Sc Chemistry (OrganicChemistry), M.Sc Chemistry (Physical Chemistry), M.Sc Chemistry (Polymer Chemistry)

The candidate must have a B.Sc degree in Chemistry with Mathematics and Physics as a subsidiary subject. They must have secured at least 50% marks or CGPA of 2 in Part III to satisfy the eligibility criteria for MGU CAT 2017.

M.Sc Physics

The candidate must have a B.Sc degree in Physics with Mathematics as a subsidiary subject with at least 50% marks or its equivalent CGPA to satisfy the eligibility criteria for MGU CAT 2017.

M.Sc Biochemistry, M.Sc Biotechnology, M.Sc Microbiology, M.Sc Biophysics

B.Sc qualification in Botany, Zoology, Biochemistry, Biophysics, Microbiology, Biotechnology, Chemistry or Physics with at least 50% marks or CGPA of 2 in Part III to satisfy the eligibility criteria for MGU CAT 2017.

M.Sc Environment Science and Management

B.Sc degree holder in any of the following subjects: Botany, Zoology, Chemistry, Physics, Geology, Geography, Life Science, Environment Science, Environment Management, Microbiology, Biotechnology, Biochemistry, Plant or Animal Science, Agriculture, Fisheries, Aquaculture, Horticulture, Forestry or a B.Tech in Civil/Mechanical/Chemical/ Environmental or equivalent examination with at least 50% marks to satisfy the eligibility criteria for MGU CAT 2017.

M.Sc Environment Science and Disaster Management

B.Sc degree in any subject with minimum 50% marks or equivalent CGPA to satisfy the eligibility criteria for MGU CAT 2017.

M.A. Malayalam

A  bachelor’s degree in Malayalam with minimum 45% marks or CGPA of 1.8 in Part III or a degree in Arts/ Science with minimum 50% marks or CGPA of 2 in Part IIMalayalam to satisfy the eligibility criteria for MGU CAT 2017.

M.A. English

A bachelor’s degree in English with at least 45% marks or CGPA of 1.8 in Part III or degree in Arts/Science with a minimum of 50% marks or CGPA of 2 in Part I English to satisfy the eligibility criteria for MGU CAT 2017.

M.A. Politics and International Relations, M.A. Politics and Human Rights, M.A. Politics (Public Policy & Governance)

A bachelor’s degree in Economics/ Politics/History/Law with at least 45% marks or CGPA of 1.8 in Part III or degree in English/Sociology/Anthropology/Psychology/Geography/Philosophy/ Commerce with minimum 50% marks or CGPA of 2 in Part III or a science graduate with at least 60% marks in Part III to satisfy the eligibility criteria for MGU CAT 2017.

M.A. Gandhian Studies, M.A. Development Studies

A bachelor’s degree in any subject with at least 45% marks or CGPA of 1.8 in Part III to satisfy the eligibility criteria for MGU CAT 2017to satisfy the eligibility criteria for MGU CAT 2017.

M.A. History, M.A. Anthropology

Bachelor’s degree in the faculty of Social Sciences with at least 45% marks or CGPA of 1.8 in Part III to satisfy the eligibility criteria for MGU CAT 2017.

M.Sc. Disability Studies and Rehabilitation Sciences

Bachelor’s degree in Arts with at least 45% marks or CGPA of 1.8 in Part III or any Science degree with a minimum of 50% marks or CGPA of 2 in Part III to satisfy the eligibility criteria for MGU CAT 2017.

M.Sc. Psychology

The candidate should be a graduate B.A./B.Sc Psychology with at least 50% marks or CGPA of 2 in Part III to satisfy the eligibility criteria for MGU CAT 2017.

M.Sc. Computer Science

Candidate must have aB.Sc degree in Computer Science/Computer Application/BCA or any other B.Sc degree with Computer Science as the main subject. The minimum marks obtained should be 50% to satisfy the eligibility criteria for MGU CAT 2017.

Master of Tourism and Travel Management specialization in 1) Aviation Management, 2) Tour Operations and 3)Health Tourism

The candidate must be a holder of Bachelor’s degree with at least 50% marks in any discipline of the MGU University or any other University recognised by the Mahatma Gandhi University to satisfy the eligibility criteria for MGU CAT 2017.

L.L.M

L.L.B. graduate with a minimum percentage of 50% marks to satisfy the eligibility criteria for MGU CAT 2017.

M. Ed. In Language Education (English, Malayalam, Hindi, Arabic & Sanskrit), Mathematics Education, Science Education, Social Science Education, Commerce Education, IT Education

Must have a B.Ed degree with at least 55% marks or CGPA of 2.2 to satisfy the eligibility criteria for MGU CAT 2017.

M.A. Economics

The Candidate must be a bachelor’s degree holder in Economics/Mathematics/Statistics  with at least 45% marks or CGPA of 1.8 in Core and Complementary subjects or equivalent degree from an institution approved by Mahatma Gandhi University to satisfy the eligibility criteria for MGU CAT 2017.

Syllabus

School of Chemical Sciences

Test will be based on BSc Chemistry syllabus of MGU.

School of Biosciences

Entrance Test will be based on MGU syllabus of Botany, Zoology, Microbiology, Biotechnology, Biochemistry, Biophysics, Chemistry and Physics at B Sc level.

School of Environmental Sciences

Entrance Test will be based on subjects of basic sciences at degree level, general aptitude and general awareness on Environmental Sciences.

School of Letters

Entrance Test will consist of questions to assess the aptitude for literary/theatrical studies. The question paper will contain essay type questions, short answer questions and objective type questions.

School of International Relations and Politics

Entrance Test will consist of questions on current affairs.

School of Gandhian Thought and Developmental Studies

Entrance Test will consist of questions from related subjects.

School of Social Sciences

Entrance Test will consist of questions for assessing the interdisciplinary aptitude as well as the knowledge in one’s own discipline for the qualifying examination.

School of Behavioural Sciences

Entrance Test will consist of questions in an interdisciplinary manner based on the syllabus of the qualifying examination.

Entrance Test will consist of two parts: Part I: questions from Computer Science, and Part II: questions to assess logical reasoning and numeral ability.

School of Tourism and Travel Management

Entrance Test will carry objective type questions for 80 marks, i.e., English Language(30 marks), General Knowledge and Current affairs(30 marks), and Travel Geography (20 marks) and a descriptive general short essay question carrying 20 marks.

School of Indian Legal Thought

Entrance Test will consists of questions concerning the following branches of law- Constitutional Law, Administrative Law, Jurisprudence, Fundamentals of Civil & Criminal Law, General Principles of Interpretation and Current Legal Developments.

School of Pedagogical Sciences

The Entrance Test shall consist of objective type questions for 50 marks based on the syllabus of general papers of B Ed programme of Mahatma Gandhi University (MGU).

Dr . KN Raj Study Centre for Planning & Centre-State Financial Relations

Entrance Test will be based on the syllabus of B.A. Economics programme of Mahatma Gandhi University (MGU).

Mode of application

Application Process for MGU CAT 2017:

Please find the below steps to apply for the CAT - MGU 2017 application process:

 Go to the official website of the university at cat.mgu.ac.in and click on 'Apply Online' Create your login account by providing a valid email ID and password . Before continuing forward don't forget to save the details. Now the MGU CAT application number will be generated for future reference. Note down the MGU CAT application number and click on the continue button. Upload a valid, clear copy of your passport size photograph and click on the next button. Enter all the basic education qualification details in the next step. You will now get an option to select the program of your choice and continue to the next step. After all the mandatory information is filled, make the payment of registration fees. The payment can be made online by credit/debit/cash cards or through internet banking. Once the payment is successful, go once again through the MGU CAT application and finally submit it. Candidates are requested to keep a printout of the MGU CAT application for future reference

Note: All those candidates who are applying for M.Ed program in Mahatma Gandhi University  need to submit a hard copy of their respective application form along with self-attested copies of the requested documents. For other courses, this particular step of submission of hard copies is not required.
